Expressive Movement
Therapy (EMT) is a unique
approach to self-exploration,
self-discovery, and self-expression.
EMT is based on the belief that
movement and personal art expression
have the power to reveal, heal and
transform our bodies and our psyches.
Movement and artistic expression act
as a mirror, reflecting our physical,
emotional and interpersonal concerns.
This reflection is both a mirror and a
map towards change and/or
self-acceptance.
The roots of
EMT come from Gestalt Therapy,
Motional Processing™ (based on Anna
Halprin's Life/Art Process™),
Body-Mind Centering, and Laban
Movement Analysis. EMT integrates
these roots by cultivating a feedback
process between movement, feelings,
drawings and writing. A dialogue is
created between our artistic
expression and our life story. EMT
seeks to integrate the creative mind
and the moving body in a way that
speaks to our current physical,
emotional, and spiritual
concerns.
An EMT
session may include:
- Guided movement
explorations
- Gestalt parts
dialogue
- Drawing
- Psychokinetic
Imagery (taking an image/drawing
into movement)
- Hands-on
support
Introductory,
half-day and day-long workshops are
available.
